Welp, I guess my “horological fan fiction” from earlier this year is now a reality. For a while now, I’ve been lusting after the older EZM-2 HYDRO, a watch that can be difficult to find. And since the collection’s introduction in 2020, I started thinking the U50 line would be a perfect way for Sinn to introduce smaller, oil-filled-case HYDRO divers. Now, Sinn have just announced their spring releases and the coolest ones out of the bunch have to be these three new Sinn U50 HYDRO dive watches. It’s a heck of a move for Sinn and I think these will be very popular.

Sinn U50 HYDRO SDR

Let’s delve into the specifications of these new versions: the Sinn U50 Hydro Tegiment, the U50 Hydro S, and the U50 Hydro SDR. Although they share the same fundamental design, each model incorporates distinct features. All three models boast a 41mm case constructed from German submarine steel, with a thickness of 11.8mm and a lug width of 20mm. While the lug-to-lug length is not explicitly stated in the press materials, it is noted by WatchBuys, our authorized Sinn retailer in the USA, as being 47mm. Notably, the case employs Sinn’s Tegiment technology, enhancing scratch resistance, and includes a screw-down crown at the 4 o’clock position, as well as a screw-in case back for added durability. Water resistance on all three is a ridonkulous 5,000m!

The watches incorporate Sinn’s HYDRO technology, which involves filling the cases with oil. This unique approach allows for distortion-free time reading from any angle and prevents fogging. I guess this all helps if you’re deep diving but I mostly just love the added legibility, look, and the way the dial just jumps right at you on an oil-filled watch. It also features a standard three-hand configuration with a practical date indicator positioned at 3 o’clock, providing essential timekeeping functionality for daily wear.

Sinn U50 HYDRO S Black

All watches are equipped with the Ronda 715Li movement, renowned for its durability and precision. This movement boasts anti-magnetic properties up to 1,000 gauss, ensuring accurate timekeeping in magnetic environments. With a remarkable 60-month battery life and an end-of-life indicator, wearers are notified when the battery requires replacement. To me, this is the kind of stuff that further enhances the ruggedness and practicality of solid, quartz dive watches like this.

I’m sure it’s no surprise to hear that I’m very excited about these. Up until now, most of the modern and readily available HYDRO watches have been larger 44mm models. This move takes the concept and makes it a little more appealing to a greater population of potential buyers. Pricing on all of these starts at $2,460 and goes all the way up to $3,400. This all depends on your bracelet/case finishing/strap configuration. You can learn more about the new Sinn U50 HYDRO dive watches on the brand’s official site.

  1. Very interested in this one, I wish I could see one in person in the US without buying it. Also, I think it has to go back to Germany for a battery replacement.
