Episode. #26: The Two Broke Watch Snobs official site release + Watch Adventures in Vegas

Yeaaay! It’s here! The website is officially up! A huge thank you to the #watchfam and everyone that really encouraged us to get this done! In this week’s episode we talk about what the site means for our (and the whole TBWS community’s) future going forward. Plus we break down the huge ethical dilemma present in modern watch journalism and how it’s doing you a disservice (and how we plan on addressing that moving forward).

Plus Mike talks about watch adventures in Vegas and Kaz (sigh…) starts a damn #watchfast of his own -_-…

Let us know what you think of this weeks episodes either in the comments below, on Instagram (@twobrokewatchsnobs), or by email at [email protected]!

  1. Finally listening to this episode! Some thoughts on the episode:

One thing I want to do with my SNK807 is to try it with different straps, and I have one coming on the way and a watch spring bar tool. Will be posting thoughts and results of course. It seems like the perfect watch to try this out on, since i have never changed straps on a watch before.

I sleep with my watch on. This is why I like lume on my watches, and this is one area where my SRN063 is lacking — only lume on the hands. Need to get me some Seiko diver lume 😀

I am enjoying the website thus far. Looking forward to what’s next. I don’t read nor am I familiar with the watch journalism; I find the way I find watches I’m interested in is through essentially the EDC community on Instagram — seeing watches worn, and seeing what I think just looks cool. Then I research watch history, features, movement, etc. but I find it rarely takes me anywhere to website reviews. Usually it just takes me to either message boards, or product pages, so I admit I’m not familiar some of those practices watch websites do, but rather I feel I’m on a treasure hunt and looking at what cool stuff regular people are wearing. That said, I will use your site as one of my resources, just as I’ve used your emails and opinions as resources and information.

On that note, I think it might be useful to have something on the website as a general watch reference or resource page — information about basic watch vocabulary, information about brands, about movements. If watch journalism is really a difficult thing to navigate and determine what’s true or false, I think it would be great if you made your website a reliable and non-biased source of general information, basic watch stuff every watch person should know. Now, I’m completely new so I might be biased and I’m sure people already know a bunch of that stuff, but it still might be useful as a refresher. Also maybe tutorials on how to change a strap or basic watch maintenance would be cool to see. Let me know what you think.

Enjoyed listening to the podcast overall,.

By the way, hope you don’t mind me commenting a lot — I find it easier to write a lot through this method, and it’s easier, more direct, and gives a lot of context for my comments if it’s connected to an article or podcast.

    • Dude comment all you want on the site, man! Whichever way is easier for you to articulate yourself is the best way – so totally feel free to comment on the site!

Yea, man swapping straps on the SNK was my first time as well and it was a great learning experience – plus it’s just super fun to swap out straps on those things.

Man, nothing will compare to that Seiko diver lume lol – I don’t know what they do different but the Lume on my Sumo is just unreal lol.

That’s actually a great idea, man – having a very straightforward and basic compendium of general basic watch terms and vocabulary that will help folks get familiar with the jargon. I believe you and I have actually talked about doing something similar on an episode – basic movement/caliber vocabulary and such. I’ll talk to Mike about and see what’s up – could actually be a lot of fun just creating those pages and writing that stuff up lol

  2. Hey Kaz and Mike,
I love your podcast. It brings a breath of fresh air to one of the things I love most in my life. You guys are keeping it real, no haughty bullshit.
Sorry if I missed it, but I don’t see the show notes along with the podcasts. I find your show notes (which I see on my phone’s podcast player) very helpful, especially the links you provide to all the watches you’ve discussed. Could you please add them to your website as well?
My other request is for you to put some photos of both of you on your various outings (for example, at the WindUp event). I think many of us would love to see you guys.
Keep up the great work. Thanks so much.

    • Hey, dude!

Thank you so much for the support – glad you’re digging the show!

Oh, man you’re right – I just added the links in there now and I’ll make sure they’re in there from now on. Does that work for you? Thank you again for catching that and let me know if having them here like this is helpful!

When we go to Wind Up I’m sure our faces will be in photos (no matter how hard I try and avoid the camera 0_o lol). Look forward to some really fun coverage from the event this year – it’s gonna be a lot of fun and we’re excited to see which brands will be making an appearance!
