Sometimes, it all just comes together. We’ve been critical of Zodiac in the past and often consider their crazy color combinations to be a little too much for us. But maybe we just secretly love them. Nevertheless, we’ve found that the brand almost always seems to offer a serious bargain when it comes to dive watches breaking into the four-figure price range. Now, Zodiac has recently announced a new trio of Super Sea Wolf models with white ceramic cases as a follow-up to last year’s release in black ceramic. Typical for their modern-day playbook, the colors are wild, summer-ready, and flat out fun.

Before getting too into the weeds, let’s not forget that the Zodiac Sea Wolf was one of the very first dive watches, ever. Debuted alongside the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms at the Basel watch fair in 1953, the Sea Wolf was revealed a full year before the Rolex Submariner. So with these new models—we’ve got the heritage, the interesting use of materials, a COSC-certified movement, and a price tag under $2k. Hmmm … already seems worlds away from another new vintage-inspired reissue we covered not too long ago.

Each version of the watch is built with a white ceramic shell over a steel core for the case. My thought is that this is done for added durability. Although, I wonder if it’s also meant to cut down on costs by using less of the ceramic material. Either way, these look sharp and the case is a little beefier than other Super Sea Wolf models at 41mm in diameter and 13.2mm thick. The colors for each dial are accented with matching straps and the watches are water-resistant to 200m. Inside, Zodiac went with an STP 1-11 automatic movement that’s chronometer-certified by COSC.

You can snag the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Ceramic in these references: ZO9590 (blue), ZO9591 (orange), and ZO9592 (green). Something about the white ceramic just makes these crazy colors work. And so far, this may be one of my favorite unexpected summer releases from a brand this year. You can learn more about the watches on Zodiac’s official site.
