One of our favorite newer boutique brands has just announced a follow-up to their highly successful debut piece. Back when we reviewed the Royalguard, we praised the model for its price and the enthusiasm behind the brand’s founder. It was one of those moments that made watch collecting feel fun again, and I’ve been happy to see several folks adding a Royalguard to their collection. Now, Imperial is following that success with the introduction of a GMT, featuring a funky dial and some non-traditional GMT bezel colorways. We’ll be getting one in for a full review soon but here’s a quick rundown.
The Oceanguard release comprises four distinct models, offering traditional and contemporary colorways. Three models feature black dials, while one presents a white dial variant. Notably, two models feature the iconic “Pepsi” bezel configuration, while the others introduce unique color combinations, such as coral and turquoise or fuchsia and cyan. Each version is limited to just 25 pieces, so I can see them going fast.
Refinements to the case and dial design include the introduction of a unique circle index at 12, divided horizontally into white and black segments (or cream and white for the white dial model). Also, the traditional triangle marker at 6 o’clock has been replaced with a date window featuring a roulette-style date wheel, alternating between black and red to denote odd and even days, respectively.
Enhanced legibility is ensured through a sapphire crystal with an AR coating, giving you a clear view of the dial. Departing from the dive bezel of the Royalguard, the Oceanguard features a friction-fit 24-hour bi-directional GMT bezel with aluminum inserts, adding functionality and versatility to the timepiece.
A notable upgrade comes from the bracelet, which now features a five-link design for increased comfort and aesthetics. Including a clasp with toolless micro-adjustment further enhances the wearer’s experience, catering to individual preferences for a precise fit. Damn … I can’t stop looking at that Coral & Turquoise version. ::drool::
