So much has been said about “integrated bracelet sports watches” by this point that they may have officially overtaken “affordable GMT watches” in popularity. We can all probably blame the Tissot PRX, honestly. But this level of enthusiasm in the market has really benefited collectors, as we’re now seeing so many similar options from brands like Christopher Ward, Nivada Grenchen, and Citizen. Admittedly, I haven’t paid too much attention to the Citizen Tsuyosa models but now that the brand has unveiled the Super-Titanium Small Seconds NJ0180 series, I’m paying attention. Yep, titanium with an automatic movement, new dial colors, and a similar Tsuyosa design all for under €500.
Now, I should be clear in stating that the new Citizen Super-Titanium Small Seconds NJ0180 is not technically part of the Tsuyosa lineup. We do, however, get a similar barrel-shaped case that measures 40.5mm in diameter and 11mm in thickness. The titanium case material featuring a Duratect surface-hardening process is the signature combination of Citizen’s trademarked Super Titanium™. Topping that off we get a highly-polished circular bezel that appears to be a nice contrast with the textured dial. The crystal is sapphire and the watch has 100m of water resistance. I don’t believe this is a screw-down crown but that’s ample water protection for this kind of watch.
Inside, Citizen went with their Caliber 8213. That’s an in-house 8000-series movement from Citizen that is similar to what’s currently in the Tsuyosa watches. As an Eco-Drive guy, I’ve actually never experienced a Citizen automatic movement that came straight from them, unless you count similar Miyota movements that are supplied to other brands. If those are any indication, I figure this should perform very well. It has a 40-hour power reserve, operates at 3Hz, and has 21 jewels. I believe Citizen claims an accuracy of +/- 20 per day but I presume the movement will preform much better than that on-wrist. It also looks like we get a very simple clasp that’s crafted from Super Titanium™.

Man, at €429 these are pretty compelling. I also really like the gritty stone-like texture we get on these dials. With green, turquoise, white, and dark blue colorways, I think they’ll be a hit with plenty of enthusiasts out there. I’d go for the deep green version since it probably looks black in some situations. Anyway, these are available now from Citizen. Let us know what you think!

+/- 20 seconds a day is 600 seconds, or 10 minutes, per month. This is simply terrible. Citizen needs to do better.
I agree esp with such a big brand name
Please: Only watches with Sapphire Crystal
The crystal is actually sapphire, not mineral crystal.
I live in Japan and would like to buy this model.. but I can’t find it. Is it available in Japan?
Hi, Chris:
It’s tough to say – I wasn’t able to find any retailers with it either (at least online) – I’d say it’s worth reaching out to Citizen directly and asking them.
Best,
