After its release in 2013, the Swatch Sistem51 collection has proven itself as a fun, geeky, and affordable option for the mechanically-obsessed collector looking for more out of the Swatch brand. I’ll never forget the reception at the time and Swatch was immediately elevated to an entirely new level of cool with basic models in black, blue, red, and white. Since then, we’ve seen a few versions and now, Swatch has released a fresh iteration – the Swatch Sistem51 Petite Seconde.
The best news I can call out here is that Swatch is still exploring uses for the stainless steel case in this Sistem51 collection. The tradition is carried on here, and the watches come in 42mm polished steel cases, instead of the plastic we saw on the originals. The Swatch Sistem51 Petite Seconde is available with a blue or black dial, and features an engaging dial pattern with the hallmark small-seconds indication at 6 o’clock. I love my Gen 1 in black, but this has a completely different level of refinement behind its design. And, as usual, pricing is incredibly accessible.

We’ve seen a ton of Sistem51 iterations over the years – but the watches are still incredibly fascinating, with that movement completely constructed by machines. I’d argue that there isn’t anything else like it in the watch world right now and the fact that it’s super affordable just makes it way more fun. I love watching collectors gobble these up and keeping them close, along with watches that cost 10x as much.
