Two New Retro Casio Baby-G Watches:
Holy Nostalgia Wave, Batman!
By: Kaz Mirza
I’m gonna be real with you guys here – I had no idea Casio was still making Baby-G Watches, but they totally are! They just added two new pieces to the current retro Baby-G BG169R Line.
When I was in 7th and 8th grade basically everyone had one of these retro Baby-G watches. Just seeing them here brings back fond but misguided memories of collectible card games, PlayStation 2, and my old AIM screen name/away message. When I saw that Casio released these two new colors (BG169R-2C and BG169R-4E), I also found that there were a whole bunch of other options that have apparently just always existed… Behold!

I’m not sure if this was the case for the original Baby-Gs we all know and love, but these new Retro ones have some pretty cool features:
- 200 Meter Water Resistance
- Classic G-Shock durability and shock resistance
- EL Backlight
- World Time (29 different Time Zones and 30 Cities)
- 5 Daily Alarms
- 1/100th Second Stopwatch
- Countdown Timer
- Accuracy: +/- 30 seconds per month
Can I just say how much of a badass you’d be if you dived 200M with one of these things? Tangling with giant squid and nose-punching sharks like a Norse Saga legend with a touch of nostalgia on your wrist. Of these two new colors released, I think the BG169R-2C Translucent blue with orange accents appeals to me more. However, after looking through all the models Casio offers, I stumbled upon the BG169R-8B translucent grey with teal accents, which has really caught my attention.
Pricing for all the Baby-G BG169R pieces is consistent at $79 MSRP (a bit more for certain models). However, you can find great prices on Amazon for them. The new BG169R-2C and BG169R-4E Baby-G models aren’t on Amazon yet. But when they are I’ll be sure to update this page so everyone can check them out. In the mean time the BG169R-8B that I’m interested in IS on Amazon for an incredible price*… I may have finally found the G-Shock for me!
What do you guys think? Were these Baby-G watches a part of anyone else’s childhood too? Are there any pieces in the current offerings that are speaking to you? Be sure to check out the Baby-G BG169R page on the main site.

Kaz has been collecting watches since 2015, but he’s been fascinated by product design, the Collector’s psychology, and brand marketing his whole life. While sharing the same strong fondness for all things horologically-affordable as Mike (his TBWS partner in crime), Kaz’s collection niche is also focused on vintage Soviet watches as well as watches that feature a unique, but well-designed quirk or visual hook.
That grey and teal one is pretty cool, but….aren’t Baby-G’s women’s watches? :-/
It’s funny Mike and I were just talking about this on this week’s podcast episode. When I was a kid I could have sworn that they were just unisex lol – unless no one cared back then. It’s only recently that I’ve noticed they’ve been saying their part of the women’s collection. Honestly, even if they are I don’t care – that teal/grey one is calling me! 0_o
Ha – I just listened to the podcast today and wondered if you’d seen this comment. You’re right, I don’t remember the gender divide back in the day. New hashtag? #RealMenWearBabyG 🙂
I know it’s late in the game, but I got that one a few years back and I love it, I have had a Casio (a precursor) black and silver from a competition, them I got my 1st Baby G about 15yrs ago, it was clear, I think, and now this, it’s sweet!
