Ep. #30 – Watches in Movies
and the Heitis Chronograph Giveaway!

Woo! This episode of Two Broke Watch Snobs gets a little wild! Dogs are barking – cats are gingerly jumping into 3D Printers, Kaz & Mike forget how freaking English works, and finally some details about the latest TBWS Giveaway are shared. It’s the Two Broke Watch Snobs Episode 30 Extravaganza!

Mike commits a crucial faux paux and suggests a Triple X movie marathon (…sounds as awful as you think) and the conversations gets odd when one snob is adamant that soda has all the basic food groups. Incidentally, that Snob is also starving and dehydrated on air.

Also, huge shoutout to @ea8 for clearing up the details behind Mil-Spec watches. Follow up query: should Kaz pick up a firearm? The guys then discuss the ever-relevant topic of watches in movies, TV shows, video games, books, and basically every type of media imaginable.

  1. First! Take that ea8, Lol.

Great episode and awesome knowledge drop by @ea8 on why Mil Spec and the importance. It so makes sense now.

I’m just going to point out that Dr Strange had some serious watch action going on. The drawer of watches on winders was cool looking, but technically is not the best way to store all those watches.

The signature piece that was featured, the JLC Master Perpetual in stainless steel, was an interesting piece. It makes all the more sense when you consider it was a gift from the other Dr and I don’t believe she was in the same income bracket as Strange. That is why it was a stainless steel version as well as had an engraved steel caseback, where it is normally a display back. Also that is why it had so much more sentimental value to him.

Awaiting the invitation to XXX marathon.

  2. GoldenEye the video game is the best. Rocket Launchers in the Stacks, 4 players. Playing as Oddjob. YESSSSSS.

That’s all I have to say about this episode because I rarely movies and/or television. Enjoyed the bizarre tangents though!

      • Very true. Totally forgot about proximity minds in the facility… I also had a strange penchant for remote mines in the complex… Been way too long since I played and I’m feeling quite nostalgic for it now.

Hamilton has been in a lot of movies and have this list on their site. If its brings more people into the watch conversation I’m all for then being in movies. The first time I saw Dr. Strange I paused it on the watch drawer trying to identify all the watches. I’m that guy. The watch Constantine wear has been in my list for a long time. It’s impossible to find the actual ref number he is wearing because it’s old but Oris makes a few modern ones that look similar.

  4. Long time listener, first time caller.

I generally don’t comment, but this show hit me right in the feels. Goldeneye was probably the genesis of my love of watches. I would have to say it came from the game first, I played the shit out of that game. Looking at that watch all the time in the game, for health etc. and lasering the door in the Train level. After that I couldn’t help noticing the watch he was wearing in the movie.
Omega’s marketing got me just at the right age, and got lucky with a great tie-in game that uses a watch extensively. Like religion, sports teams, and McDonalds, you get in there early enough and you have a hard time breaking out of that mindset. There are a lot of good nostalgic feeling with that game, which definitely got transferred over to the watch. Which is why my first luxury watch was the Seamaster 300, but the white dial midsized one.
Best multiplayer game mode was everyone set their health to -10, use pistols only, with level “complex”. If you set your health to -10 the body armour would actual help you out, whereas “license to kill” armour was useless.

Great show guys. Thank you for all the hard work you put into all the shows.

    I will hang-up and listen.

  5. I owned a Bishop Alien Seiko(I had no idea it was that when I purchased it new).
You couldn’t read the time in the dark. It was useless as a watch.
