Doxa SUB 300 Searambler ‘Silver Lung’ 50th Anniversary Watch

By: Michael Penate

As a follow-up to 2017’s Sub 300 ‘Black Lung’ reissue, today Doxa is proud to introduce a new limited edition known as the Doxa SUB 300 Searambler ‘Silver Lung’ dive watch. Unlike the previous version, the SUB 300 Silver Lung reissue is based on a watch that technically never made its way onto the market, which makes this the very first time collectors have a chance at owning this special timepiece. Kaz and I take the situation very seriously whenever a time comes to discuss watches in this price range, but we felt that this Doxa SUB 300 Silver Lung was special enough to share with you guys. As always, let us know what you think in the comments and share if you were lucky enough to pick one of these up.

Since the 50th Anniversary SUB 300 reissue, Doxa has made great use of the classic 42mm reproduction cases and this SUB 300 ‘Silver Lung’ is no different. If the Professional (Orange) series Black Lung is any indication, this watch should wear fairly slim and the reduced dial space will continue to support that vintage-y feel. While the orange Doxa diver is archetypal at this point, there’s something very special about this silvery sun-kissed SUB 300 Searambler colorway. It’s slightly more subdued and dressy, but still delivers some of the unique Doxa characteristics like the orange accents found throughout the no-decompression bezel and the minute/second hands.

Inside the Doxa SUB 300 Searambler ‘Silver Lung’ is a COSC-certified ETA-2824. Doxa doesn’t always send out movement batches for COSC certification but when they do, you can bet it’s for a very special release like this one. Even one year later, my own personal Sub 300 Black Lung reissue is still running within COSC performance specs, and I suspect future SUB 300 Silver Lung owners will experience the same kind of quality and performance. On top of that, the modern version of the “beads of rice” bracelet is extremely comfortable with a modernized, hefty feel to it.

Easily the SUB 300 Searambler Silver Lung’s most distinct feature is the US Diver’s Co. emblem located at 8 o’clock on the dial. Much the like prototypes of the late ’60s, this Silver Lung reissue was fully developed and designed with dive gear manufacturer, Aqua Lung. Personally, I’ve always been attracted to these types of collaborations and the fact that the Searambler Silver Lung was never technically made available will definitely make it attractive for those that missed out on the Black Lung reissue released last year. In fact, if you’re the type of owner that’s been leaning into the possibility of collecting Doxa, this watch would totally be the perfect complimentary piece to watches like the Sub 300 50th Anniversary Shark Hunter and the Professional Black Lung reissue… a guy can dream, right?

Let’s face it. By the time you read this, there’s a good chance that stock numbers might already be critically low and truthfully, I find that Doxa should start getting used to the craze surrounding their reissue products. While the Doxa SUB 300 Searambler Silver Lung price is high, I still find that there is serious value and somewhat of a novelty factor to appreciate when dropping this kind of cash on a watch. There is nothing like a Doxa dive watch and think if more people had a chance to handle them in person, the more collectors would start flocking to both modern and vintage examples. 1. Today while working did listen to your podcast and got very interested by this Doxa. It’s spot on in every detail exception for the dial (but I think I pass the fact I don’t like white dials).
Really very nice watch.. just don’t want to see the price… but that most of the watches I like are way over my budget for watches…
